You have had five years to save up to buy a new version of Office. MacOS Extractor, OS X Patcher, and MacPostFactor are apps that guide you through patching and installing OS X El Capitan (10.11), Yosemite (10.10), Mavericks(10.9), or Mountain Lion (10.8) on your older Mac. If you want to run old or in this case extremely old software you are of course completely at liberty to do or try doing so but no one forced you to upgrade your operating system.Įither you need to switch away from Office to an alternative or you need to buy a newer version of Office which is supported by Microsoft and will therefore be compatible with the current Mac operating system. The iMac is currently running El Capitan, but I want to completely erase its disk and reformat it as APFS. Office 2011 was released in October 2010 so even it is now over five years old.
Office 2011 for Mac is still supported by Microsoft and does still work under El Capitan, it did need a minor bug fix to make it El Capitan compatible but because Microsoft are still supporting Office 2011 they have bothered to create this fix and provide it free of charge. If Microsoft the authors of it can be no longer bothered to support it then it is not Apple's problem if it no longer works properly eight years later on much newer Macs running much newer operating systems. Now as mentioned above Office 2008 is effectively eight years old, is officially discontinued and is no longer supported by Microsoft. Version 12.3.6 was the very last update for Office 2008, I did manage to find an official download link for this update for those who might still need it. Microsoft officially discontinued all support for Office 2008 including bug fixes and security fixes in April 2013.
This in computing terms is an eternity even taking in to account Microsoft's rather lethargic progress in releasing new Office for Mac versions.
